3.5 miles, 10 locks
Firstly I have to apologise for the quality of today's photos. It is either due to the weather conditions or because I used a different SD card as I have been having problems with the original card. We shall see. Update - I have discovered the problem and it was all my fault - I changed the setting last night for the sunset and forgot to change back this morning!
It was sunny when we rose, but very chilly. After such and amazing Easter Bank Holiday this May BH is a bit of a let down. I just hope that it is not a wash out for St Richard's Festival in Droitwich and all other outdoor events.
Although most locks along this stretch (often known as Heartbreak Hill) are in pairs, there are some where one is either missing or derelict.
The lock cottage there has a magnificent clematis in full bloom
Eventually it was our turn
What is it with boats who decide the lock landing is a good place to moor?
When we came this way in 2016 I took this photo of what I thought was a stuffed dog sitting in a conservatory window
Monty is usually very quick to get back on to the boat, however at this lock he waited just too long - I was on, Chris moved off leaving a very confused dog stuck with nowhere to go! A quick reverse and he was rescued.
He was not taking the risk at the next lock and got back on board before the boat dropped down the lock!
is opposite what used to be The Romping Donkey - a pub that closed years ago and now looks as though it is being turned into a private residence. We stopped for lunch way back in the 1980's on a hire boat holiday with our children.
So what was third time lucky? The locks are sometimes not close enough to walk, but it took three tries to have time to make and drink our morning cuppa!

I think there is only one pound where you can guarantee to be able to boil a kettle for two on Heartbreak Hill, between 55 and 54. Quite looking forward to those locks, it feels like ages since we've been up them.

Yes that is the gap Pip. I have to say they are quite easy to work especially with a bridge and the double gate end of each lock. I wonder where our paths will cross? Jennie
Internet is appalling where we are this morning. We almost reached Lymm yesterday and our seven days on the Bridgewater runs out early afternoon tomorrow. So dependant on how wet Mick fancies getting today we will nudge closer to Preston Brook. Pip
Internet is pretty dire here as well. We are currently in Anderton Marina and will leave on Friday aiming to get to Lymm if we can. Let us know if you are likely to pass through Anderton tomorrow and we will pop out to say hello. I hope Mick does not get too wet - it is filthy weather and we are glad we arrived here a day early and can hibernate today! Jennie
Strongly suspect we'll stop before Anderton tomorrow, so we may pass each other on Friday. Mick says the rain wasn't as bad as he thought it would be, just constant until we'd been moored up for an hour. Enjoy your break. Pip
