The Pyewipe - again! 23 May 2018

Wednesday 23rd May 2018
Burton Waters Marina to The Pyewipe Inn
1 mile, 0 locks

Yesterday (Tuesday) was a domestic day with preparations for our departure on Wednesday which included filling the tank with water - no easy task with a short pontoon meaning the only way to get the hose to the bow was over the roof.  Now while we love our flexible hose this is one time it is not that user friendly and even more so when the water pressure is very low.  Due to the pressure on the hose it needed someone to hold it for the entire 1 hour 20 minutes it took to fill the tank!  Good job I had a book to read.  You might think we had used a lot, but we did no washing whilst we were here and used the facility block for showering.  Still the job was done.  Ken and Sue made it safely back, so we would all be heading off sometime Wednesday.

We ended our visit with a barbecue cooked on the back deck on Tuesday.

Before leaving the marina I must say that, despite being very much dedicated to cruisers, we were made very welcome.  They were very efficient - we were expected and all paperwork etc was ready for us.  For us it was an excellent option once we knew there were no moorings in Brayford Pool.  We met up with lots of friends which was always our aim during our stay in Lincoln.  Just to cap it all the weather was warm and sunny with no rain.

It was always going to be a late start on Wednesday as Cleddau was booked in for an engine service.

We bade farewell to our neighbours who despite their numbers thankfully never came onto the pontoons, so they were always clean.  We had also said goodbye to our human neighbours - a couple who both own a boat next door but one to each other!

The day had started with the usual walk with Monty - one of the big advantages to this marina  was the easy access to the towpath.  Now we are all taught not to go too fast and create breaking wash (it erodes the bank sides), but this cruiser must have missed that lesson - he was creating a

tidal wave!

At lunch time we "pulled pins" and headed off to the diesel pontoon, filled up, paid our bill and off we went

This is added for our neighbour at home who has a love of sheep - Norma these seem to be moved around on a daily basis and really are very appealing.

A while later Sue and Ken arrived.

We had travelled all of one mile to stop yet again at the Pyewipe, so why did we keep returning?

Well it is a great mooring

even though there is a road not far away (it did not disturb us)

Well we had had such good food we just wanted to go one more time.  I have already said why the Pyewipe has special significance for Chris and I (see HERE if you missed it) and I have to say that it did not disappoint on any of our four visits.  19 covers over 8 days and no one had a bad meal.  In fact they were all excellent.

And those tepees - well they are joined together to provide a large area used for wedding receptions and the like.

With a rather posh front door for what is, after all, a tent!

It was also just a spit away from Lincoln where we plan a short stop before moving on tomorrow.

We had our moorers Christmas party in the tents last year. Have to say it was really very nice.

Can't think over the last ten years that we have ever had a bad meal in the Pyewipe. We seem to be going more often now that we have the dog!
