Wet, wet, wet.......

Lowsonford to Preston Bagot above lock 38
2 miles, 7 locks

A fairly leisurely start and we walked back to lock 37 and up the hill to Finwood Farm Shop.
On the way we passed this cottage – did I say cottage?

It even has separate accommodation over the detached double garage!

When we got there we discovered it is only open on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10am to 6pm.  Thankfully today is Tuesday and it was 09:55 when we got there, so not long to wait.  We wandered up the hill a bit more and then back again.  I opened the gate and wandered in and found this sign

Which way to go?  There was a bell with instructions to ring loudly.  A man appeared saying he was glad someone was a better time keeper than he was!   For anyone else coming this way – if you want to make use of this shop and it is not a Tuesday or Saturday, phone ahead (07899 973025) and if they are around they will open up.  We bought some braising steak, free range eggs and some bread.  The bread was good, but I will have to report on the beef and eggs in due course.

Monty was fascinated – a horse

Free range chickens

and pigs
Ummm not at all sure about them - very noisy and inquisitive!
We set off in the dry, but within 15 minutes the heavens opened.  Having not had internet access for a couple of days we were not forewarned!  It was a waterproofs, boots, gaiters and silly hats day.  It was still pretty despite the rain.

Thankfully we did not have too far to go and have lit the fire and holed up for the day/evening.

Lynn – I am sorry no chance of a smile today from Monty
or Chris!
I wasn't smiling much either!!

This is for Boatwif – now you know what to do with those much loved old boots of yours! Well maybe not!

This is the beautifully extended barrel roofed cottage at lock 37.

Tomorrow to Wootton Wawen to meet up with The Captain and Boatwif from nb Cleddau.  A phone call has been received  - the Tesco shop I ordered in the pub last night has been delivered to them with no substitutions.  We are also likely to stay dryer - well until Thursday!
